Abstract

In the present study, we've carried on the research for simultaneous reduction of NOx and soot for direct injection diesel engine using high and low cetane fuels.

The stratified injection system applied to a diesel engine using dual fuels. Diesel fuel was used as the high cetane fuel and pure methanol or blended fuel of methanol and water were used as the low cetane fuel.

Some parts of the injection system, i.e. nozzle holder, delivery vale, were remodeled to inject dual fuel sequentially from one injector. Two kinds of the fuel were injected through same injector in every injection.

Injection characteristics of stratified injection system were investigated using fuel quantity measuring system.

From the results of combustion in the cylinder and exhaust characteristic, as amount of supplied methanol or a blended fuel of methanol and water is increased, soot concentration is reduced obviously.

As supplied amount of blended fuel is increased NOx concentration is reduced.

It was confirmed that possibility of simultaneous reduction from stratified injection of dual fuel.
