Abstract
In this paper two approaches for the study of bus accidents are going to be tackled. First of them, the statistical analysis will provide a great amount of cases, but the results obtained depend on the quality of the data contained in the databases. The second approach is the in-depth accident analysis, that provides much more complete results but requires more complex and expensive resources.
The statistical analysis presented in this paper studies bus accidents happened in Spain between 1994 and 1998, and is specially focused on injury mechanisms in the ocuppants of this type of vehicles.
The in-depth study shows the methodology used when the INSIA Accident Reconstruction Division faces a bus crash, illustrated with the main conclusions from the cases analysed in the last few years.
