Abstract

The accident statistics shows that the frontal collisions of buses has a very high rate. The high number of victims of this kind of accidents (including the bus passengers and other partners also in the traffic) and the high level cost of material damages and losses calls the attention of the society of this dangerous accident type. While in the case of other type of vehicles (e.g. cars, trucks) there are international regulations and standards to reduce the severity of frontal collisions, the buses do not have these kind of regulations. This paper tries to collect the main technical problems related to the bus frontal collisions showing examples from the everyday practice. This is a general survey about the frontal collisions which does not go into the details, in the individual subjects. The possibility and the necessity of international regulations is shown, but further studies are required to know how to do it.
