Abstract
The paper provides a description of FIAT, VOLKSWAGEN and RENAULT demonstrator vehicles as equipped in the context of the European Project LACOS, a fourth framework research programme project aimed at investigating and evaluating Lateral Control Support Systems.
Devices equipping the three prototype vehicles had two main tasks:
demonstrate and validate two Lateral Control functions (Lane Change Support, Lane Warning
Support);
develop different HMI solutions to interface the driver with the LACOS System and support him/her by warnings during lateral control manoeuvres.
Functional architecture and HMI configurations adopted by the three Car Makers are presented, underlining the common solutions and the differences between the three demonstrator vehicles. The testing procedures followed to verify the technical performances of the developed LACOS Systems is also presented.
