Abstract

The detailed knowledge of the dynamical behaviour of persons on vehicle seats has an important influence on the evaluation of driving comfort. Therefore one subtask in the SCOOP project was the development of a person/seat calculation model, based on multibody simulation including the non-linear system properties of vehicle seats. For the development of the calculation model, several tests have been carried out including the measurement of the apparent mass of a person including backrest behaviour and the identification of the static and dynamic seat stiffness with cushion and backrest indentation. Based on the modular design of the calculation model, a separate validation for persons and seats has been performed. The final step in the verification process was the comparison between the simulated behaviour of the combined model and the measured transmissibility functions of persons on seats. The total validated model is able to predict the motion behaviour of persons with arbitrary vertical excitations and allows the optimisation of the mechanical properties of vehicle seats with respect to the specific vehicle dynamics and the vibrational sensitivity of people.
