Abstract
Nowadays, modal analysis is a well-accepted tool to identify the dynamic behavior of a structure. The results are often used to validate and update a Finite Element model (FE model), which in turn can be used for lifetime estimations, optimization processes or system synthesis computations. The exhaust application case in this paper describes all necessary steps to come to an experimental FE model validation and updating in the most efficient way. In this process the use of smart transducers and the handling of some typical acquisition problems, such as inconsistent data sets, are discussed.
