Abstract

The new integrated CAD – CAM systems induce an increasing demand for simulation tools, which are able to simulate industrial part assembly processes by welding, gluing, riveting or bolting.

Concerning welded flexible parts, there exists no efficient computational aid on tolerancing and metrology available on the market.

The first part of this paper presents an FEM – based approach and an experimentation of tolerance analysis for compliant assemblies. To be more precise, we are presenting a program using as input the nominal CAD geometries of the different parts and the distribution of variabilities both at the geometry level and at the process level, in order to simulate the assembly process.

In the second part, we have identified some dispersion elements and carried out experiments with them in order to verify the robustness of the ATAD module developed.
