Abstract

The hybrid vehicle design is nothing new and internal combustion engines, electric motors and batteries are well known objects to the engineers. Hybrid vehicles are multi-parameters systems and it is important to understand how every component influences the on-road performances. Simulation software can be used to test different kinds of energy storage systems, internal combustion engines and electric motors, and to understand how all the components behave together and self-influence each other. The paper presents a simulation software developed at the Dipartimento di Meccanica of the Politecnico di Torino that evaluates the standard performances of series ternary hybrid vehicles together with the fuel consumption, the behaviour of the energy storage system and the power recovered in regenerative brake in the user defined test.
