ABSTRACT

FBS is a function to improve brake performance in brake fading condition, a vehicle with FBS function can have enough brake performance and robustness in brake fading condition. In this paper, Brake Thermal Model was adapted for actualization brake fading condition in the HIL simulator and the FBS performance was evaluated in the HIL simulation and in the actual vehicle test. As a result, This was confirmed that FBS can secure brake performance properly in brake fading condition. HIL simulation was used for the FBS performance evaluation and Brake Thermal Model was applied to the HIL simulator. Brake Thermal Model was built from dynamometer tests using actual brake components for improving reliability of the HIL simulation. HIL simulator consisted of software and hardware components. Carsim was used for the vehicle model and Brake Thermal Model was added in Carsim. FBS function was included in the EBCM which was one of hardware components in the HIL simulator. Test results are classified under three large groups. The first group is ABS normal operation in brake fading condition under FBS function on and off. When enough brake pressure is applied to the brake system in the HIL simulator, ABS can be activated properly with the FBS function in brake fading condition by comparing wheel slip and brake pressure changes in each brake corner sides. The second group is the stopping distance comparison. Through comparing the stopping distance at each brake temperature between FBS on and off, the stopping distance can be retained by the FBS function even in high brake temperature. The last group is comparing the test data between the HIL simulation and a vehicle test. By comparing those, HIL simulation can be reliable for the evaluation of the FBS function.
