ABSTRACT - Development of automatic transmission vehicle is a comprehensive engineering which includes not only transmission control but also emotional satisfaction perspectives. (e.g, vehicle responds to driver's acceleration intension, vibration transfer characteristics, etc.) Conventional transmission development methods heavily rely on measurement of change in acceleration level during shift event or subjective rating procedure. With these conventional methods, there were limitations on establishment of development direction that conforms to customers' needs. The objective of this study is to propose a new quantitative method which utilizes emotional factor analysis to visualize four primary subdivisions of perceived shift quality onto the emotional pentagon. By calculating area ratio of the pentagon, appropriate ranges of emotional index for different vehicle classes and reference physical quantities that satisfy target emotional index are defined. With this quantities shift quality analysis method, we would like to present differentiated shift-quality development directions for various vehicle classes.
