ABSTRACT

This research project aims at the holistic optimal design and parametrization of efficient electric drive systems for passenger vehicles. The electric powertrain consists of one electric motor, a gearbox and the power electronics. The specific powertrain configuration is dedicated to axle drives in electrified vehicles (xEVs). The possibilities of the applications are purely electric drives, as in battery electric vehicles (BEVs) resp. fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) and axle drives for hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) resp. plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs). The importance of packaging-related aspects is pointed out and a concept is proposed to integrate package metrics into the multi-objective optimization in the area of conflicts between efficiency, performance, costs and package. This approach offers engineers and decision makers a quantitative basis to process specific product characteristics with respect to individual requirements and priorities. Development time and effort are reduced by integrating componentspecific expert tools into one comprehensive development platform.
