ABSTRACT – Many countries, including Thailand, are using the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) standard for fuel consumption and emissions testing with the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). In this study, the Bangkok Driving Cycle (BDC) was investigated to match with the local traffic conditions in Thailand. This test investigates the fuel economy, CO2 emissions, and vehicle efficiency between a hybrid electric vehicle and a conventional vehicle. The preliminary results show that hybrid electric vehicles can reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, but there are some conditions where hybrid electric vehicles have higher fuel consumption and CO2 emissions compared to conventional vehicles. This occurs in the case of driving at a high average speed during the driving cycle. However, the fuel consumption of hybrid electric vehicles in general is less than conventional vehicles because of various driving conditions.
