ABSTRACT –
Electromagnetic force is a major issue of generating an acoustic noise in the traction motor for electric vehicle. To design and verify traction motor with respect to the acoustic performance, we have carried out the numerical analysis method, which predicts acoustic noise caused by electromagnetic force of PMSM. Time-transient force data is obtained from a motor operating in constant speed, and then transformed into time-harmonic excitation force by two-dimensional Fourier transform. The finite element method is used to analyze noise radiation in frequency domain and compared with experimental data. The comparison discovers that the fixture to mount motor makes noticeable difference in the numerical analysis. The applied analysis method and findings are expected to support the development of a noise-reduced motor for electric vehicles. All results have been obtained by commercial software packages.
