ABSTRACT – The underhood flowfield has become more and more complex due to the continually increased engine power output and geometrical restrictions. This study presents a comprehensively experimental analysis of the vehicle underhood cooling module for different thermal conditions that characterize actual vehicle road-operating conditions. Experiments were carried out on an instrumental passenger car in a 1:1 scale climate wind tunnel. From the measurements results, it can be found that the passenger car investigated in this paper has a certain excess cooling ability, the single-fan configuration will cause the airflow passing through the cooling module exhibit obvious non-uniformity, and the coolant output temperature in transient test exists significant fluctuations.
