Abstract
Research and /or Engineering Questions/Objective:
Early Development of automotive products, stylists who designed the new car styling were not based on the Aerodynamic theory. Therefore, the new styling often has larger drag coefficient, without considering the Aerodynamic performance.
Methodology:
An advanced Aerodynamic method was used to solve the problem. Firstly, a large number of competing automotive were collected, and an database of competing automotive was established; Secondly, Aerodynamic wind tunnel testing was done, and Aerodynamic performance parameters of competitive automotive were obtained. The third but not last, competing automotive scanning and Aerodynamic simulation, and get the Aerodynamic target in the early development of automotive products.
Results:
After the advanced Aerodynamic method was done, firstly, it would guide the design to styling surface, which was suitable for customers and company’s characteristic feature; Secondly, the Aerodynamic target numbers were obtained, it would be batter for company to control the project process; The third, it easily to find out which place be gave advice on the styling design.
Limitations of this study:
Lack of advanced Aerodynamic method is that it costs so much time to find out the competing automotive that has well Aerodynamic performance, and it difficult to judge the judging standard ,it needs the profound Aerodynamic knowledge.
What does the paper offer that is new in the field in comparison to other works of the author:
Innovation of this article is that it is the first time to use the new method to guide the styling surface design in the early time during new project development; the secondly, the similar Aerodynamic target was obtained, and guide the project to confirm new car’s Aerodynamic target. Other papers don’t consider how to solve the problem to guide the styling design in the earlier time. They do not control the styling design.
Conclusion: It can be concluded by this article that:
1. It is the first time to adopt the new advanced Aerodynamic method which to guide the styling design in the earlier time during new project development;
2. A large amount of Aerodynamic database is established;
3. A large amount of Aerodynamic simulation database is established;
4. The problem that the stylist do not consider the Aerodynamic performance in the earlier project development is solved, an fine and comply with customer and company characteristics styling is designed.
