Abstract

Objective

This paper is about the development progress of $10M 4 year project. The scope of the project include UTIS(Urban Traffic Information Systems) and WAVE dual communication RSE, dual communication OBD, 6 urban area cooperative safety services and development of test procedures.

Methodology

There are 11 participating organizations developing RSE, OBD, Antenna, services and testbed. KATECH developed the testbed and test procedures. The process included driving simulator based tests, simulations, proving ground tests and public road tests. Results : The paper is focusing on the last year development part which are proving ground tests and public road tests. The test results and test procedures of OBD, RSE and 6 cooperative safety services are included in the paper.

Limitations

The devices and services are well developed, and the participating companies are now directly working with OEMs to commercialize; however the positioning technology especially the lateral positioning showed significant limitation although the accuracy is much improved when compared to the conventional methods.

Contribution to readers

This paper includes the overall development of the Korea’s largest cooperative safety service development project conducted by automotive industry side. The readers of this paper will find the standard procedures of 6 cooperative safety services. One of the developed services, EEBL is now an official work item in ISO TC204 as PWI 20901 C-FVBWS (Cooperative Forward Vehicle Emergency Brake Warning). The author Si-bok Yu is the work item leader for this ISO standard.

The 6 cooperative safety services are

V2I services : Urgent Vehicle Priority Signal Service, R/T Traffic Data Collision & Provision, R/T Notification of Emergency Event

V2V : Forward Emergency Brake Warning, Forward Vehicle Collision Warning, R/T Notification of Emergency Event

Keywords: V2X, Cooperative Safety, EEBL, FVBWS, FVCWS, Priority Signal
