Abstract
Twin sheet structures are highly efficient solutions that provide outstanding performance by means of using small amounts of materials (shaped in rather complex geometry) and high-tech, low energy consumption equipments. The major shortcoming is that the geometrical shape of the twin sheet structure is dependent on the de-molding surface thus no elaborated features for increased stiffness can be added. Furthermore, in order to be economically efficient the part starts from material sheets with uniform thickness. A potential solution is to add reinforcements that provide increased load carrying capacity. Optimized shape and pattern and/or reinforced twin sheet structures have come to provide a viable design alternative for light yet high-performance panels.
