Abstract
With the increasing state of air pollution and global warming, environmental regulations are continuously getting tougher, and the development of eco-friendly vehicles are increasing as well. In this paper, a fully electric micro-size vehicle prototype with a foldable body concept is introduced as one possible solution to address the above issues. Under the UNECE regulation, this vehicle can be classified as an L6 or L7 category. However, other economic markets yet do not have defined regulatory requirements or norms on this vehicle segment, hence the prototype vehicle is designed and developed for the referencing values and stronger attraction toward the social benefit on new segment introduction.
The design and development process are described in this paper along with the required control network and component design. The innovative and attractive body style is created based upon nature observation. Four sets of driving electric motors are incorporated in the wheels applying permanent magnet synchronous motor design and their related control system, which is called as in-wheel motor assembly. The four-wheel independent control of torque and speed are developed and implemented in conjunction with the overall vehicle dynamic control algorithm. These types of vehicle can provide social-economic benefit if applied to the car-sharing or inter-modal transfer vehicle or urban area of local transport, etc.
