Abstract

Complementary option for EV

The STaR Range Extender is a complimentary option for Electric Vehicles (EV). It is in fact a mini generator that produces electric power to recharge the EV’s battery pack while driving. It not only extends the EV range, but also eliminates the necessity of a charge station infrastructure and related charging wait times.

Compact STaR Mechanism used

Unlike the available range extenders today, the STaR Range Extender does not employ the well-known cylinder – piston – crankshaft – flywheel mechanism nor the Wankel rotary mechanism. Instead the compact STaR Mechanism (patents pending) is used that employs two interlaced rotation discs. The STaR Mechanism houses the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) as well as the generator components and provides the concept for the construction of ultra-small range extenders.

Objective

The objective of the first STaR Range Extender’s project was to design, engineer, construct and test physical models for proof of principle and proof of concept purposes, so as to validate the unique concept used.
