Abstract

Based on the CFD analysis of a gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine, intake, spray and mixing process are studied. Validated by transparent engine test, CFD simulation can guide design of GDI combustion system efficiently. Five-factors which influence the mixing and combustion process of GDI engine have been proposed, namely dynamic tumble strength, turbulent kinetic energy intensity, fuel impingement, degree of homogeneity and air-fuel ratio around spark plug. A criterion of Five-factors is set up, which solve many problems in GDI engine development and realize high combustion efficiency.
