Abstract
Solid-liquid hybrid lubrication technology is more useful for the performance improvements of the engine friction parts. In the solid-liquid hybrid lubricating systems, the selection of solid lubricate film is of great importance for obtaining the low friction and long wear life of such composite lubricating coatings. DLC-based solid-liquid lubricating coating composed of DLC solid coating as a supporting layer and a liquid lubricating film of engine oil as upper layer was successfully fabricated. This DLC-based solid-liquid composite lubricating system has shown to significantly improve the load capacity, anti-wear, and friction-reduction ability of the engine parts, such as piston ring, mechanical tappet and high pressure common rail plunger. Such high performance DLC-based solid-liquid hybrid lubricating coating with low friction coefficient and high wear resistance will be the “ideal” advanced protective coatings in a wide range of engine applications for energy saving and emission reduction.
