Abstract

In this paper, HV energy management by coordination control of hybrid driving and heating system is proposed to prevent the significant decrease of in-use fuel economy in winter season. The reason of the deterioration is shortage of heat energy in engine coolant and the shortage prohibits EV driving. We find that increasing engine power can solve the problem and the following effective ways which increase engine power; “Introducing electric heater (e.g. heat pump)” and “Storing heat power into coolant”.

The purpose of engine power increase is not only raising coolant temperature but also raising average engine efficiency. However, overuse of electric heater spoils the fuel economy improvement since consumed electric energy has to be generated by engine. To determine an appropriate engine and electric heater power, this paper proposes an evaluation function to design the coordination controller of hybrid driving and heating.
