Abstract

This paper presents methodology for integrated safety analysis that is capable of assessing the effects of active and passive safety systems throughout the whole pre- and in-crash event. Integration of both PreScan and MADYMO Packages makes it possible to investigate the robust functioning of integrated safety systems during complex vehicle maneuvers. The first step is generating the vehicle dynamics model including radar sensor in PreScan that is to be coupled with the control logics of AEB(Autonomous Emergency braking) and PSB(Pre-safe Seat Belt) in Matlab/Simulink. The next step is establishing a set of accident scenarios in which PreScan (running the scenarios), and Matlab/Simulink (active safety system) are coupled. Finally, the information about vehicle dynamics and collision speed is then sent to MADYMO software that simulates the two phases of the collision: pre-crash and in-crash. It enables the design of sensing and controllers as well as optimization of occupant restraint systems performance based on predictive collision information.
