Abstract
Now a day’s seating activities are extended more than eight hours other than driving. So driving in a relaxed and orthopedically correct seating position is awfully important to lessen tension, accidents and to extend the health of the driver. Studies reveal that bad sitting posture causes an excessively curved back in thoracic region, which leads to spinal problems. According to the British Chiropractic Association, 32,000 people each month seek assistance for back problem related to poor driving or sitting posture. Also drivers are advised to sit at a comfortable distance from the steering wheel. Sitting too far away can aggravate back pain and too close can increase risk of injury from the car’s airbag. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), drivers should keep about 10 inches between the centre of the air bag cover and their breastbone to reduce the risk of air bag injury. This paper proposes a system which ergonomically and orthopedically computes and sets the seating position of the driver.
