Abstract
A solar energy driven vehicle was developed at Szechenyi Istvan University. The basic concept was to use the most energy that is readily available in the solar form. Photovoltaic (PV) cells were used in the vehicle. PV cells convert renewable solar energy to electrical energy, dc voltage and current. Systems containing PV cells require a power electronics interface for power conditioning. Maximum power point (MPP) tracking is used in PV systems in order to achieve the maximum efficiency of the PV cell. This paper presents the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) methods, the results of the battery measurements and introduces the vehicle built at Szechenyi Istvan University.
