Abstract

The automotive industry is still facing challenges regarding the development of vehicles that fulfil mandatory requirements world wide. Even though WP 29 is playing a major role in harmonizing automotive technical requirements at international level (Global Technical Requirements – GTRs-) and the governments have realized about the need of simplifying the regulations scenario, the current situation is still far from fully harmonization. This is the case for instance of main Asian countries (Korea, China and India). The aim of this paper is to present the current situation about homologation systems of Korea, China and India and highlight main similarities and differences compare to European homologation procedure. The following topics per each mentioned country will be addressed: – General homologation procedure. – Main stakeholders involved: Approval Authority, Technical Services, etc. Roll and responsibilities of each one. – Homologation procedures for each Country: Main technical and administrative issues. – Initial Assessment requirements. – Main standards for each category of vehicles with a brief explanation comparing with EU Directives, ECE Regulations, FMVSS or any other standard (ISO or National Standard). – COP issues. – Evolution of the current standards and Type Approvals: little explanation of the case of India and the NATRIP project. – Status of these Countries at the Agreement of 1958 and / or 1998 of UNECE. The presentation will end up with IDIADA’s vision on the evolution of all these homologation models.
