Abstract

Active Passive Integration Approach (APIA) has been the trend of vehicle safety. The most critical challenge of this technology is how to predict the accident effectively and control the passive safety equipment to work correctly and timely. Statistical analysis indicated that, usually, the driver suddenly used the brake just before the crash. It had been found that, in real vehicle tests, there exist obvious differences among emergency brake acceleration and other conditions. So, the emergency brake acceleration can be used to predict accident. Based on the emergency brake action of driver and the moving window quadrature algorithms, the control system of a new crash energy absorption equipment which combines active and passive safety was developed. Real vehicle tests show that the emergency brake action can be identified by this system, accident can be predicted effectively, and correct order can be made for the energy absorption equipment by this system stably.

Keywords: active passive integration approach (APIA), crash accident prediction, brake acceleration, moving window quadrature algorithm.
