Abstract

With the increasing introduction of high-speed railroad vehicles, the need for better-performing brake equipment has become greater than ever. In the case of employing a brake disc as a key component of mechanical brake equipment, however, the initiation of thermal cracking owing to repetitive thermal shock generated during braking may potentially lead to higher maintenance costs, worsened braking performance, and greater risk of railway accidents. Therefore many efforts to develop new materials for brake disks and evaluate their characteristics by experiments have been carried out. In the present study, mechanical tests and thermal fatigue test were performed on 3 high thermal resistant materials of CG(compacted graphite) cast iron we developed. And a numerical analysis using FEM on thermal fatigue test was also carried out to identify the performance of thermal fatigue tester.
