Abstract
This work demonstrates an optimisation and lean design development approach that consistently creates more value with less time and effort. It is based on a collaborative FEA platform that enables systematic distribution of effort and improvements in the efficiency and speed. The parametric optimisation of a simplified generic car seat actuator assembly is conducted using the collaborative FEA platform. Results demonstrate more than a threefold reduction of the optimisation time, and an improvement of up to 70 per cent in computational speed, when compared against a stochastic optimisation approach.
