Abstract

In this paper, the simulation of customer operation by means of the 3D method is presented. For this purpose, customer operation is systematically classified in terms of driving style (Driver), vehicle load (Driven vehicle) and driving environment (Driving environs). Statistics were derived from extensive measurements on public roads and used for the MOVE3D simulation environment, which was developed at the Institute of Automotive Engineering for determining customer-oriented operating load data.

The comparison of operating loads in three different markets and the 3D parameter space for commercial vehicles will be presented in detail.

In accordance with the 3D method, information on the road quality for different markets and the customer behaviour are required for the comparison of operating loads on chassis and body. For this purpose, urban roads, extra urban roads and highways in Germany, Eastern Europe and China were measured by using a measurement system for road roughness. The objective was to get information on operating loads in customer operation that drive from the stochastic parts of road profile.

The parameters unevenness and waviness are identified from the measured road roughness of individual sections. They describe the quality of the road, but neither the measuring vehicle nor the driver, and can therefore be used for an objective comparison of markets in terms of road quality and expected operating loads in customer operation if combined with the 3D customer simulation.

The 3D customer simulation is used for identification of the representative customer type for passenger cars and for commercial vehicles. The parameters which generate load are divided into driving style, vehicle load and road in both cases.
