Abstract

Korea has started the research program on the development of the regulations for the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle (HFCV). The hydrogen gas can leak and diffuse more rapidly and then the fire or the explosion breaks out due to the ignition of the leaked gas. The experimental apparatus was constructed to examine the diffusion characteristics of the hydrogen gas. The concentration change due to the hydrogen gas diffusion was examined by the flow rate conditions of 65L/min and 131L/min, and four cases of the ventilation. It was estimated that the upper side window open case for the ventilation was more effective than the ceiling window open case. If the forced ventilation will be needed in the underground parking lot, the ventilation would be installed in the ceiling or the upper area of side walls to ventilate the leaked hydrogen gas in the closed space. Considering the diffusion characteristics through the extensive experiments on the various nozzle directions, the amount variations of the leaked gas etc., the guidelines on the installation of the ventilation system at the closed space to prevent the fire or the explosion due to the leakage of the hydrogen gas would be added in the Korean Act on the parking lot or the building construction.
