The paper describes basic results of the complex research directed on the enhancement of the vehicle brake systems efficiency. The first investigation phase was the detailed review of the up-to-date methods for increasing of the brake systems efficiency. The second stage was the development of design procedure for disc brakes, which takes into account friction forces in moving parts. Using this procedure the hysteresis losses value in disc brakes can be calculated already in the designing stage. The third phase was the disc brake simulation. The fourth investigation stage was the natural testing of pneumatic disc brake and hydraulic brake system components. The fifth phase was the original design development of disc brake with self-boosting which can be used for common and mechatronic brake systems. Hence the paper considers the full pre-designing stage using the Model-in the- Loop simulation for promising disc brakes with elements of mechatronic technique.
