A buck-Boost voltage converter is described with parameters suitable for the automotive environment. The maximum input voltage of 70 volts gives a generous margin for voltage spikes during a load dump, while the minimum input voltage of less than 3 volts will ride through a cold crank event. A unique gradual transition between buck and buckboost modes insures no disturbance in the output voltage during the transition. Any output voltage between 1.23 and 70 volts is possible, with output current only dependent on the power components chosen for a particular application. The converter is designed for a minimum parts count and for simplicity of use.
