Abstract

Keywords-standardization, consortia, FlexRay, FlexRay consortium, JasPar

The present case study examines the international collaborative framework between European and Japanese standard consortia in standardizing the automotive LAN protocol called "FlexRay‟ by focusing on the contribution of the Japanese standard consortium in drafting its original conformance test specification. In the course of the analysis, our focus will be on the Germany-based FlexRay Consortium (FRC) and the Japan-based JasPar (Japan Automotive Software Platform and Architecture). The present case study examined the example of actions and decision making around the standardization of FlexRay. Aiming at the collaborative framework between FRC and JasPar, we mentioned three distinctive feature of the collaborative framework by focusing the division of labour between consortia, and investigate the reason why JasPar decided to draft the tight and narrow specifications. Having analyzed the collaborative framework, we could understand the reason why JasPar has decided to set the specifications for lower bit rate as their original contribution toward FRC.
