The worldwide change in climatic conditions is being discussed more and more in public. In the course of the ACEA (European Automobile Manufacturers Association ) CO2 self-commitment several European car manufacturers have agreed to reduce the emissions to 140g/km until 2008. The EU-commission also plans to reduce CO2 emissions of European vehicles fleet to 120g/km in the year 2012. Therefore, fuel consumption is again in the focus of the car manufacturers.

The demand for comfortable cars with high functionality and acceleration dynamic is in opposition to energy saving activities. Published studies argue that the majority of mechanically based functions will be replaced by energy saving software-based mechatronic products in the medium term.

Space and EMC-regulations force the suppliers to integrate electronic circuits into remaining mechanical actuators. In these cases the electronic system will get in touch with harsh environment conditions. It has to withstand high temperature exposure and a high number of temperature cycles at high acceleration levels. AB Mikroelektronik serves those applications with corresponding highly integrated circuits including the packaging of the system.
