Vehicle ride characteristics such as shimmy and impact noise are strongly dependent on the parameters of chassis system. Kinematic and compliance characteristics of a suspensionsteering system and front-rear braking force distribution of the vehicle give the vehicle its ride characteristics during longitudinal driving. The present work focuses on the parameters during longitudinal driving maneuver. The chassis parameters of shimmy and impact noise are so correlated that the parameters for shimmy should not be determined without considering the parameters for impact noise and braking force distribution. In addition, the parameters for nose up and shudder are correlated with the parameters for shimmy also.

In this paper, some numerical analyses were carried out to optimize the chassis parameters that are closely correlated during accelerating, constant speed driving and braking. Simulation results showed good agreements with test results.
