This paper addresses the product security topic, which becomes more and more critical with the venue of electronic new functions added to the cars. Legal issues are rising due to the misunderstanding by the customer of the information delivered by the instrumentation. The presentation focuses on the all-digital electronics facing the analogminded user. It explores the wrong communication which can occurs, the over confidence of the engineers on the data processing and the danger of using numerical displays for critical information. It details a balanced approach to avoid limited or bad MMI's, especially those which must be degraded regarding the legal department's recommendations. It shows the enhancement brought to the customer's needs, as well as the responsibility transfer.
