Abstract

Abstract

Efficient vehicle windshield cleaning systems are associated with a spray device which performance is measurable in terms of fluid distribution over the wiped area. This performance strongly depends on the nature of the washer fluid dispersion, e.g. droplet size and washer fluid speed at the nozzle outlet. Droplet characteristics are measured with a PDIA method and statistical data are obtained with the principal component method. These data are used for simulating the droplet trajectories from the nozzle to the impact on the windshield. The output is a calculated spray pattern on the windshield, providing also information on the fluid density. The calculation algorithm is integrated into a Valeo design software allowing designers to optimize front and rear washer systems.
