Abstract

Abstract

In the past ten years, commercial fluid dynamics simulations tools have been considerably improved. Today, most of wiper product developments integrate airflow simulations, allowing to anticipate the windlift performance and the motor torque of a wiper system. More recently, Valeo Wiper Systems (VWS) carried out intensive work to integrate computational aeroacoustics (CAA) studies at each phase of the product development, and to propose optimal aeroacoustics design of wiper products. An experimental database was built, based on anechoic wind tunnel tests. A benchmark of all existing engineering methods was carried out, starting from a careful look at steady RANS airflow simulation results to the emerging commercial LES software. A methodology was defined, allowing to apply the best methods at each stage of the wiper product development.
