Abstract

A concept of intelligent environmentally friendly vehicle (i-EFV) is proposed in this paper. It integrates three functional components, i.e. clean energy powertrain, electronically controlled chassis and advanced driver assistance system. By employing the technologies of structure sharing, sensor fusion and control coordination, it can achieve more comprehensive performances of traffic safety, fuel efficiency and environmental protection. Based on the definition and configuration of the i-EFV, some key technologies including design for resource effectiveness, driving environment identification and coordinated control are studied. As a basic application, a platform of intelligent hybrid electric vehicle (i- HEV), which incorporates hybrid powertrain with driver assistance system, has been designed and implemented. The simulation and experimental results demonstrate that the conceptual vehicle has better performance than a conventional one.
