Abstract

The aim of this research is to develop a driving behavior evaluation and assistance method which assists drivers in improving their skills in lane change maneuver in real time by using a driving simulator. This development is based on data of lane change maneuver which was collected from experiments on the expressway and the driving simulator, and a reference driver model of lane change maneuver. The effectiveness of the proposed driving improvement method was verified by experiments using the driving simulator. Five subjects were educated by using the developed method. Then, it was found that the developed method can improve the lane change behavior from the comparison of the data before and after the education.
