Abstract

A new deceleration model based on a G-vectoring concept—which predicts deceleration of a vehicle before it enters a curve—was developed. In this model, the predicted lateral jerk, which acts on the vehicle during cornering, is used to decelerate the vehicle. The curvature of the road ahead is used to predict the lateral jerk according to the time variation of road curvature. It is confirmed that the deceleration calculated by this model can imitate the deceleration caused by the driver’s braking. This model will be useful for improving the driver’s feeling of deceleration that an auto-brake control system creates before the vehicle enters a curve.
