Abstract

This research was carried out based on the idea that one possibility to reduce the serious traffic accidents might be to make a countermeasure based on the human behavior on the intersection. At the first step for them, we needed to clarify the drivers' behavior on intersections. This was the goal of this presentation. In this study, we especially focused on driving behavior at intersections which have a stop sign. To examine the potential characteristics in driving behavior, we have had analyzed natural driving behavior at the intersections, using drivers' behavior database developed by HQL. Then, Through two statistical analyses such as Hayashi’s Quantification Method Type II and multiple regression analysis, in terms of both view point traffic environmental factors and driver's characteristics factors, we could have found the direction of the strategy, which is shown as figure 9, to prevent non-stopping at the intersection.
