Abstract

Ride is study of vehicle’s vibration response to the road excitation. Evaluation of ride characteristics in a truck is very important as the drivers are exposed to vibrations all day long which lead to driver fatigue and damage to trucks. In the present work a 25-ton tipper is selected as benchmark vehicle and CAB suspension is redesigned to achieve improved ride comfort. Vibration testing on the vehicle is carried out and the results from testing are validated with MATLAB/Simulink results. The quarter suspension model is also built using ADAMSView. Design of Experiments is carried out using ADAMS-Insight to arrive at combination of spring stiffness and damping coefficient, such that resulting cabin accelerations and displacement values are lower than the existing values.
