Abstract

Durability test of an automotive component can be done in many ways. Most common method is test it on a rig in a lab. The objective of a lab test is to validate a component/sub system physically subjected to all anticipated durability road loads. But replicating or reproducing the road loads in lab environment is a challenging task. For many years this was addressed through experience; however, it has often led to unnecessary over-design or under-design. In addition, automotive life expectancy is typically in order of years, it becomes virtually challenging to prove the product has robust reliability under service conditions over its whole design life. Objective of this study is to develop an accelerated test procedure for suspension and structural components to validate their durability performance requirements
