Abstract
With the implementation of stringent PM emission norms in various countries for diesel vehicles, the legislation demands a PM mass limit as low as 5mg/km in the NEDC cycle starting from Euro5. This makes the usage of Diesel particulate filters (DPF) mandatory. The same is mandated for upcoming BS6 emission norms in India for diesel engine vehicles. DPF usage involves soot loading and soot burning (regeneration of soot). This paper puts forward a DOE based study on temperature profiles inside a DPF during active DPF regeneration, especially during drop to Idle (DTI) in dense city stop-and-go traffic conditions in India. It also covers limitations of DPF usages, failure modes of DPFs etc
