Abstract
Engine in-cylinder flow structure like swirl & tumble governs the combustion process and directly influences the emission formation and fuel consumption at the source. The objective of present study is to investigate the in-cylinder flow field developed by intake port designs. The effect of geometrical details of various port cross sections on flow velocity and swirl are studied and a numerical relationship is established with intake port performance parameters i.e. swirl and flow coefficient. Further, the impact of these new intake port designs on offhighway diesel engine emissions and performance is evaluated. Thus the focus is given to create port design guidelines for desired performance required for combustion development
