Abstract
Continuous improvements are also required for vehicles equipped with internal combustion engines and automatic transmissions as a consideration for the environment. Torque converters are mounted in many automatic transmissions and affect fuel efficiency, power performance, and NVH performance of vehicles. It is also required to be small in size and light in weight. In addition to the torque converter tends to correspond to engines of different specifications with one basic structure from the viewpoint of component commonality. And these blades (Torus) have to provide fluid properties suitable for each different type of engine. However, minimization of torus could affect torque converters performance negatively, because of the increasement of fluid flow velocity in torus. This time we did CFD analysis and experiment of cavitation to investigate the method to minimize torus. As a result, we achieved fluid properties suitable for high torque engines while using small torus.
