Abstract
Gearshift quality has become a prime parameter from perceived quality point of view. Huge amount of research is being done to improve it. Most of the work done till date is on synchronizer pack, shift fork, shift tower and gear shift cable damper design. In passenger car transmission, shift quality is governed by three major parameter – effort, feel and precision. This paper discuss gearshift feel and precision enhancement for passenger car application through gear shifter modification. An objective metrics which can be evaluated using GSQA kit from M/s Ricardo were identified to accesses gear shift feel and precision. This objective metrics consist of parameter computed from Static and Dynamic data collected at vehicle level. Objective assessment was done using conventional and proposed shifter at vehicle level with same powertrain and cable assembly.
