Abstract

This paper presents a new casing made of composite material for an In-Wheel motor drive system that works in an electric vehicle. These prepared composites were found to perform well with squeeze casting method as it lays the groundwork for the next stages of progression in In-Wheel motor casing development in electric vehicles. This proposed experimental work is to suggest a light weight motor casing material with high thermal and mechanical property. In order to improve this, samples were made up of aluminium metal matrix composites (A413-B4C) through squeeze casting process. This fabricated composites reduces the unsprung mass compared with the conventional pure aluminium alloy casings and also offers better thermal and mechanical property. Due to this, the life of the composites increases and the vehicles attains high performance characteristics. Owing to the same may open new avenues for applications like in-wheel motor in electric vehicles.
